ShotCompass is an AI photography coach. This notice explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain, like the rest of the app.
If you use the app as a guest: your gear and your question history are stored only in your browser (localStorage). They never leave your device and we cannot see them.
If you create an account: we store your email (to sign you in) and the profile you choose to fill in: name, optional bio and photo, your gear (camera, lenses, tripod, filters) and the genres you shoot. All profile fields are optional except the email.
If you use groups: we store the groups you create or join, their invite codes, the photos you upload (kept in a private, members-only store), and the feedback you write. Group photos are visible only to members of that group.
To keep the service available we also briefly count requests per user or IP address to stop abuse. These counters are short-lived and not used to profile you.
Your account data, group photos and authentication run on Supabase, our database and storage provider.
When you ask the coach a question, the question and your gear context are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. We do not send your name, email or photos to the AI. We never ask the AI to judge photos you have already taken: it only helps you plan the next shot.
We keep your account data until you delete it. Deleting your account removes your profile, your gear, your photos and feedback, and any group you created. Guest data lives only in your browser until you clear it.
You can export everything we hold for you as a JSON file, and you can delete your account and all its data, at any time from your Privacy & data page. You also have the right to access, correct, or restrict the use of your data.
